Where is SAIL Adirondacks?

We have two bases of operation both located within New York State’s beautiful Adirondack Park. Saranac Lake is nestled in the midst of the “high peaks” region of the park between Lake Placid and Tupper Lake. There are actually three Saranac Lakes, Upper, Lower and Middle. Depending on the time of the season SAIL ADKs will host cruises on either Upper Saranac from the Indian Carry Boat launch or on Lower Saranac operating from the Saranac Lake Marina. http://www.saranaclakemarina.com/.

Our Port Henry base is located at the Port Henry Marina which is on the north end of town along route 9N.  The marina is located adjacent to the NYS Boat Launch and Fishing Access area. The marina site has a storied and historic past. During the hay-day of the Port Henry mining industry the site was located near one of the area’s first smelters and office site for one of the mining several companies. A ferry also used the site as a terminal landing near where the National Weather Service now has a data collection station.  More recently site was where the Crown Point Bridge arch was constructed in 2011.  Today’s marina features all new equipment and amenities with plans for expansion now underway.

What happens if it “Blowin’ Stink”? (or raining or lightning or just ain’t no wind?)

SAIL ADKs reserves the right to determine if the weather will prevent sailing on any given day. A full refund or rescheduling will be made in the event we cannot sail due to weather conditions. Cloudy conditions, light winds or scattered rain showers will not result in a refund or a rescheduling. Weather in the Adirondacks can be fickle so we do not depend entirely on the weather forecast an we will not cancel a cruise based solely on the forecast.  We will not cancel or reschedule prior to one hour before our scheduled departure.  All that being said, it is always best to plan for a little foul weather so bring a rain jacket or wind breaker and wear non cotton clothes that will dry quickly if they wet.

How do I pay for my Sailing Experience?

SAIL ADKs will charge your credit card upon receipt of your reservation to secure your booking. If your time slot is unavailable, your card will not be charged. We will contact you to find an alternate time to go sailing. We accept most major credit cards.

What about cancellations?

Cancellations made 72 hours or more prior to a trip will be refunded 100%. Cancellations or changes made less than 72 hours before a trip and no shows will not receive any refund. Cancellations will be confirmed by email by SAIL ADKs.  Trips which Sail ADKs cancels due to weather that cannot be rescheduled will be refunded 100%. If unexpected heavy rain or winds cause SAIL ADKs to terminate a sail early (within the first half of your time), a 50% refund OR your sail can be rescheduled for no fee. If SAIL ADKs terminates a sail during the last half of your time, your sail may be rescheduled at half price.

Can I buy a gift certificate for a cruise or learn to sail experiences?

Oh Yes…you can purchase one of our cruises, or lessons or give a dollar amount to friends and family to use as they wish.

Are food and drinks allowed?

Yes!  You are welcome to bring your favorite beverages, snacks, or picnic goodies with you on your cruise. There will be a cooler on board with complimentary water and ice. You are welcome to do some light grilling of our aft rail BBQ.

Do you have any age restrictions?

Children of all ages are welcome to join your crew.  The boats are equipped with Coast Guard approved personal flotation devices (PFDs) for adults and children. Children under 12 must wear life jackets at all times. Guests with infants will need to provide an infant appropriate US Coast Guard approved PFD and it also must be worn at all times.

Do I need any special clothing for sailing?

Most people have all the necessary clothing in their wardrobe. A windbreaker or sweatshirt, t-shirt, and jeans or shorts are generally the most comfortable sailing gear. We recommend sailing barefoot, but if you prefer to wear shoes you should also have some type of non-marking boat shoe or a sneaker with light-soles which will not scuff up the boat.

Do you allow pets on board?

Sorry no pets or animals on board.
