Other Great Adventures

Sail Ontario

We're committed to the passionate pursuit of the present moment, to the prospect of feeling our place, our sense of belonging, right here and right now!

We believe that when we allow for the fullest experience of the present moment, the overwhelming power of the lake's beauty can dull yesterday's regrets and temper tomorrow's worries...if even for a moment.

We believe that moment is worth it!

At Sail Ontario, we grab that moment every time we cast off lines, hoist a sail, and dig into the wind. On board any one of our vessels, every moment can be THAT moment.

Whether Captained Charters, Sailing Lessons, or Sailboat Rentals, Sail Ontario is THE place to find THAT MOMENT!

The adventure based challenge course industry grew out of a desire to implement a wilderness type experience into a fixed setting, as opposed to the expedition setting. These courses are eco-friendly tourist attractions, that leave participants with an outdoor experience like no other. This experience takes place in the heart of the Adirondack Park — Lake Placid, New York.

Capturing the essence of the Adirondack Park is one of Experience Outdoors primary goals, second only to the safety of our guests. By building our adventure course in Lake Placid our guests will enjoy an unprecedented look at the very park that draws seven to ten million visitors annually.

Visitors of the Adirondack Park come for two reasons; to spend quality time with loved ones without the distractions of civilization and to enjoy over six million acres of unbridled beauty. The bonds between our guests and nature will grow as fast as their bonds with each other; Experience Outdoors will both thrill and enlighten our guests, through our zip line canopy tour and through confidence building exercises to create a well-rounded overview to the park we all know and love.

Something happens in the backcountry.
You breathe easier. Think clearer. Feel sharper.

We started Adirondack Hamlets to Huts because we don’t think you should need to own an expedition’s worth of gear – or be willing to sleep in a tent for days on end – to experience that freedom.

The hut-to-hut model is a time-tested favorite in Europe, New Zealand and other places, and it’s getting more popular in North America, too. What’s different about Adirondack Hamlets to Huts is how we’ve conceived our network: Every route starts and ends in a community. You’ll hike, bike, paddle, snowshoe or ski through some of the most stunning, remote Adirondack landscapes imaginable by day. And when the day ends, you’ll come off the trail to eat a hot meal in a local restaurant or backcountry lodge, and retire for the night to a warm bed before beginning another day’s exploration of the vast and wild Adirondacks.

The wild parts of the Adirondacks, though, are just a portion of what makes this place special. More than a century ago, the Adirondack Park was created with the goal that humans and nature could live in balance—community and conservation, together.

Adirondack Hamlets to Huts is committed to both.

We launched this concept with the understanding that healthy economies are as critical to the Park as a healthy ecology. The towns, villages and hamlets of the Adirondacks, many of which depend on tourism to survive, benefit directly when travelers like you visit. And by opening the backcountry to a wider range of outdoor enthusiasts, we help bring new visitors to places that are often overlooked in favor of more well-traveled Adirondack destinations. So we spread the love. And the crowds.

How you can help: Soon, you’ll be able to book your own Adirondack Hamlets-to-Huts journey. Until then, though, your tax-deductible contribution will help us implement hut-to-hut routes by establishing relationships with inns, hotels and other lodging establishments, continuing our outreach to Adirondack communities, building an online reservation system and more. You can donate here.

In the meantime, we’ll see you on the trail.

A Fun Course from Start to Finish!

Four sets of tees make the course fun for golfers of all skill levels. A classic Scottish design, the course has great variety, with a mix of long, medium and short par 3’s, 4’s and 5’s. The fast and true bent grass greens give you a chance to sink some putts…but don’t get too complacent, each green is different and unique. Some greens are flat and there are large undulating ones, too. Be ready for the greens with false fronts and that heart-stopper three tier green on 9. The ninth has been described as a wave that can putt out from under your feet. The Saranac Inn Golf Course is for all you golfers who know that golf is a love/hate relationship. Some holes you’ll love, some you’ll hate, but there will be no forgetting the great golf and fantastic fun. “It is a course that doesn’t do ambivalence and it doesn’t do cookie cutter.” It’s also a course you’ll play and want to come back to again and again.

A Warm Welcome is Always on Hand at the Saranac Inn.

Instantly you know that the staff at the Saranac Inn Golf Course is teed-up to show you a great time. Right from the big hello when you enter the clubhouse to thank you when you finish your round, the staff at the Saranac Inn wants you to have fun and feel right at home. Reasonable rates and our friendly staff make Saranac Inn Golf Club the best golf value in the Adirondacks.

Why does Everyone Want to Play this Seymour Dunn Masterpiece?

It just may be the best golf you ever play. Steeped in history, blanketed in tradition, the Saranac Inn has been true to Seymour’s Dunn’s original plan to offer guests a fun round of golf. The Saranac Inn Golf Course was once part of the famous Saranac Inn Resort. The original 6 holes were built in 1901. In 1910 the course was extended to 18 holes. Seymour Dunn, who designed many courses in the Adirondacks and around the world, was the architect. After building over 300 courses in many parts of the world, he said that the Saranac Inn was his “masterpiece”. He also said that, “anyone who was able to play on the Inn course would be able to give a credible account of themselves on any course.”  If you can play here, you can play anywhere!
