What about Little Kids?

What we have learned over our first three seasons is that sailing on these relatively small

boats requires a level of concentration and ability to follow direction that may not have

developed in most young children. As a result SAIL Adirondacks is instituting a policy that

requires all passengers be at least six years of age and have completed the first grade or equivalent.

Where is SAIL Adirondacks?

We have two bases of operation both located within New York State’s beautiful Adirondack Park. Saranac Lake is nestled in the midst of the “high peaks” region of the park between Lake Placid and Tupper Lake. There are actually three Saranac Lakes, Upper, Lower and Middle. SAIL ADKs will host cruises on Upper Saranac from the Indian Carry Boat launch located at the end of OLD DOCK ROAD, Harrietstown NY.

Our Port Henry base is located at Bridgeview Harbour Marina https://bridgeviewharbour.com/  at the south end of the village of Port Henry, NY.  BHM is a full service marina including fuel dock, restrooms and cute little outdoor café.

What happens if it's “Blowin’ Stink”? (or raining or lightning or just ain’t no wind?)

SAIL ADKs reserves the right to determine if the weather will prevent sailing on any given day. A full refund or rescheduling will be made in the event we cannot sail due to weather conditions. Cloudy conditions, light winds or scattered rain showers will not result in a refund or a rescheduling. Weather in the Adirondacks can be fickle so we do not depend entirely on the weather forecast and we will not cancel a cruise based solely on the forecast.  We will not cancel or reschedule prior to one hour before our scheduled departure.  All that being said, it is always best to plan for a little foul weather so bring a rain jacket or wind breaker and wear non cotton clothes that will dry quickly if they get wet.

How do I pay for my Sailing Experience?

SAIL ADKs will charge your credit card upon receipt of your reservation to secure your booking. If your time slot is unavailable, your card will not be charged. We will contact you to find an alternate time to go sailing. We accept most major credit cards. The balance is due at the time of the charter and cash or check is preferred. A 3.5% surcharge will be billed for credit card payment of balance.

What about cancellations?

Cancellations made 72 hours or more prior to a trip will be refunded 100%. Cancellations or changes made less than 72 hours before a trip and no shows will not receive any refund. Cancellations will be confirmed by email by SAIL ADKs.  Trips which SAIL ADKs cancels due to weather that cannot be rescheduled will be refunded 100%. If unexpected heavy rain or winds cause SAIL ADKs to terminate a sail early (within the first half of your time), a 50% refund will be offered OR your sail can be rescheduled for no fee. If SAIL ADKs terminates a sail during the last half of your time, your fee will be prorated.

Can I buy a gift certificate for a cruise or learn to sail experiences?

Oh Yes…you can purchase one of our cruises, or lessons or give a dollar amount to friends and family to use as they wish.

Are food and drinks allowed?

Yes!  You are welcome to bring your favorite beverages, snacks, or picnic goodies with you on your cruise. There will be a cooler on board with complimentary water and ice.

Do you have any age restrictions?

Children age 6 and older are welcome to join your crew.  The boats are equipped with Coast Guard approved personal flotation devices (PFDs) for adults and children. Children under 12 must wear life jackets at all times.

Do I need any special clothing for sailing?

Most people have all the necessary clothing in their wardrobe. A windbreaker, fleece and non-cotton clothing is best for sailing. Also bring sun hat, and sun screen. DON'T BRINGS: Please do not wear flip flops. We recommend some type of non-marking boat shoe or a sneaker with light-soles which will not scuff up the boat. Please do not bring spray sunscreen (or apply prior to boarding).

Do you allow pets on board?

Sorry no pets or animals on board.
